THIS COMMUNITY HAS BEEN BANNED: Visualizing Reddit's Banning Practices
Current as of 2020
Subreddit bans have received a considerable amount of attention in recent years. The goal of this visualization was to create a timeline that visualizes banning practices from the well-known r/TheFappening to r/DeepFakes. Along with dates when subreddits are banned, I included some major events as well as dates of when media pieces are published that may have put increased pressure on the website to change policies and enact bans. Reddit, like any other system, faces pressure from outside sources and may act accordingly, thus illustrating the crossovers of outlets in the media economy.
